1. Aims and Scope

The “Journal of Veterinary Research and Production” is an international, peer-reviewed journal that publishes high-impact, evidence-based research at the intersection of veterinary medicine and animal production. The journal aims to bridge the gap between basic veterinary research and animal husbandry and to promote global animal health, welfare, and production efficiency through the dissemination of novel scientific discoveries. The journal provides a vital platform for researchers, veterinarians, and animal scientists to share empirical data that solves real-world challenges in animal health, food security, and sustainable farming systems as well as to promote the “One Health” approach connecting animal, human, and environmental health.

The journal covers a wide range of disciplines but is not limited to

· Veterinary Sciences: Diagnosis, therapeutics, public health, zoonoses, and food safety

· Animal Biotechnology: Breeding, genetics, and livestock production

· Animal health and management: Disease control (infectious and non-infectious diseases of livestock and poultry), housing, welfare,

· Animal Nutrition, Fodder, and Forage Sciences

· One Health

· Wildlife and aquaculture health: Ecosystem and aquatic health

2. Manuscript categories

a) Original research articles

Original research articles are full-length, primary reports of novel research that provide new insights into veterinary science and animal production. Submissions must present a clearly stated hypothesis, robust methodology, and comprehensive statistical analysis of the results. It should include Abstract, Introduction, Methodology, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Funding Source, Declaration of Conflict of Interest, and References. The total text length should not exceed 6000 words, excluding references, tables, and figure legends.

b) Review Articles

Review articles provide a comprehensive, critical evaluation of existing literature on a high-priority topic within veterinary research and livestock production. Rather than presenting new data, authors should analyze recent developments, identify knowledge gaps, and suggest future research directions. While the journal intends to include invited reviews from established experts, however, spontaneous submissions are also welcomed. There is no rigid structural format for review articles; however, the manuscript text is strictly limited to a maximum of 8000 words and must include an exhaustive reference list.

c) Short communications

This category is reserved for the rapid publication of urgent, highly significant, and preliminary research findings that need immediate dissemination. Short communications should consist of an abstract, introduction, materials & methods, results and discussion (combined), declaration of conflict of interest, and references. Text must not exceed 3000 words and is limited to 3 tables or figures combined.

d) Case study/Case reports

Case studies describe unusual, rare, or complex clinical conditions observed in individual animals or specific herds, providing distinct educational value or therapeutic insights. A case study must include an abstract, a case description, and a concise discussion section. Submissions are strictly limited to 2000 words and a maximum of ten essential references.

3. Formatting and manuscript preparation

I. The manuscript must be typed on A4-size white paper, with a top margin of 2.5 cm, left and right margins of 2 cm, a Times New Roman font size of 12, and justified. Line spacing should be 1.5 throughout the manuscript except for table titles and figure legends, where single-line spacing must be used. All pages of the main manuscript file must be numbered consecutively, starting with page 1 on the abstract page. Continuous line numbering must be enabled across the entire main manuscript file to facilitate the review process. The separate title page file does not require line numbering. The article should be written in clear and concise English.

II. To maintain the integrity of the double-blind peer review process, authors must submit the title page, main manuscript file, acknowledgment, and authors' contribution as separate files. The title page must include the manuscript title, full author names, affiliations, and email address and contact number of the designated corresponding author. The main manuscript file must include an abstract, keywords, the main text of the article, declarations, and references. This file must be completely anonymous with no author names, affiliations, and any identifiable acknowledgments.

III. The abstract must be a single paragraph and not exceed 300 words for original research articles, review articles, and 200 words for short communications and case studies/reports. The abstract must be followed by 4-6 keywords, in alphabetical order separated by commas.

IV. Tables and figures must not be embedded in the main text; they must be uploaded as separate files and cited sequentially within the main text where they should appear.

V. Tables must be formatted using Times New Roman, font size 10, with single-line spacing.

VI. Figures and images must be submitted in high-resolution format (minimum 300-600 DPI) in TIFF or JPEG format.

4. Citation and referencing style

Authors are encouraged to include relevant references not older than 10 years unless indispensable. All citations in the text must be included in the reference list, and vice versa.

A. Citation in the text

I. Narrative citation: In this type of citation, the author's name is the part of the sentence and is often incorporated at the start of the sentence and may be written as the last name of the author followed by the year of publication in parentheses, i.e.,

Single author, two authors, and more than two authors may be cited as Khan (2026), Khan and Shah (2026), and Khan et al. (2026), respectively.

II. Parenthetic citation: In parenthetic citation, the author's name and year of publication are both enclosed in parentheses and are given at the end of the sentence/statement. i.e.,

Single author, two authors, and more than two authors are cited in parenthetic citation as (Khan, 2026), (Khan and Shah, 2026), and (Khan et al., 2026), respectively.

More than one citation must be arranged in chronological order and separated by a semicolon.

5.     Ethical standards and disclosures

A.   Ethical approval

All studies involving live animals must have been reviewed and approved by an institutional ethical committee. Authors must explicitly state the full name of the approval committee and the approval number. Authors must declare that the housing, care, and experimental procedure followed international guidelines, e.g., ARRIVE guidelines (Animal research: reporting of in vivo experiments), etc. For studies involving interviews or questionnaires from livestock owners, workers, etc., authors must state that informed consent was obtained from all participants.

B. Plagiarism policy

The Journal of Veterinary Research and Production maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding plagiarism and data fabrication. All manuscripts submitted must represent original work that has not been published previously and is not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. To ensure academic integrity, every submitted manuscript undergoes a mandatory plagiarism check through Turnitin/iThenticate prior to the peer-review process. If plagiarism is detected by editors or reviewers at any stage of the publication workflow, the journal will follow the protocols established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) as desk rejection in the pre-review stage and retraction of the article in the post-publication stage. According to the plagiarism policy, the similarity index from a single source should not exceed 5%, and overall, it should not be greater than 19% for publication of the research article. These scores are calculated with the “exclude bibliography” and "exclude quotes” settings active in Turnitin/iThenticate to prevent penalties for standard reference settings.

C. AI declaration statement

The Journal of Veterinary Research and Production recognizes the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in scientific workflows. To maintain transparency, accountability, and academic rigor, authors must adhere to the following strict boundaries regarding the use of generative AI tools (i.e., ChatGPT, Claude, specialized data-modeling bots, etc.):

I. AI tools and large language models (LLMs) do not meet the criteria for authorship and cannot be listed as author or co-author.

II. Authors may use AI tools to improve language clarity, polish grammar, or edit the English structure of their original text. This does not require formal declaration, provided that the underlying scientific content, data, and interpretations remain unchanged.

III. Authors are strictly prohibited from using AI for content creation, data generation, or drafting text from scratch.

IV. If AI is used to execute statistical models, or generate programming scripts, etc., this must be disclosed in the Materials and Methods section. Authors must state the name of the tool, its version, and the purpose of its application.

V. If charts, diagrams, etc., are modified or created using generative image tools, the process must be detailed transparently in the figure legend.

D. Permissions

If any part of the submitted manuscript, including tables, datasets, clinical photographs, diagnostic images, or schematic diagrams, has been reproduced or adapted from previously published work, the authors bear sole responsibility for obtaining formal, written permission from the copyright holder (publisher/authors) prior to submission. Evidence of permissions must be uploaded as supplementary files during the submission process, and the original source must be fully and explicitly cited within the corresponding table footnotes or figure legends, e.g., "Reproduced with permission from (Author, year). Manuscripts containing unauthorized third-party content will be immediately withheld from the peer-review process.

6. Submission and peer review process

A. Submissions

The Journal of Veterinary Research and Production accepts manuscript submission exclusively in electronic format as Microsoft Word documents (DOC or DOCX). Articles may be submitted by the corresponding author (principal author or co-author), and he will bear full responsibility for all editorial communications, manuscript revisions, and operational decisions throughout the submission, peer review, and publication workflow.

B. Terms of submission

By submitting a manuscript to the Journal of Veterinary Research and Production, the authors agree to and certify compliance with the following terms and conditions:

I. The manuscript is original, and it is not previously published (except in the form of an abstract in conference proceedings) and not under active consideration by any other journal.

II. The corresponding author guarantees that the manuscript and author order have been read and verified by all listed co-authors prior to submission.

III. The relevant institution has approved the submission, if required.

IV. The authors permit editing of the paper for readability.

V. The editorial board reserves the right to request the raw metadata, or unedited clinical image, at any stage during the review process. Failure to provide raw data upon request will result in immediate rejection.

VI. Any request to add, delete, or rearrange author names after the initial submission must be formally approved by the editor-in-chief and requires a signed letter from all authors. No authorship changes are permitted after the manuscript is officially accepted.

C. Potential reviewers

To facilitate a timely review process, authors are required to provide the names, institutional details, and contact information of two potential reviewers (one national and one international) during the initial submission stage. The reviewers should not belong to the institution/university from where the manuscript has been submitted. These recommendations are for reference only and don’t guarantee their selection as reviewers. It is the editor's responsibility to consider a reviewer from the author's recommendations or select all reviewers anonymously based on the scope of the manuscript and nature of the study.

D. Review process

The Journal of Veterinary Research and Production believes in a fair and rigorous review process. A double-blind review will be practiced for all submitted manuscripts, where the identities of both the authors and reviewers remain completely concealed from one another throughout the evaluation process. All submitted manuscripts will be reviewed by at least two experts in the appropriate field, determined by the editor of the journal.
